How to Clean Cast Iron Cookware

Maintain the superior quality of your cast iron cookware with DeathlyStag Cast Iron/Griddle Seasoning & Conditioner. Our unique blend keeps your cookware non-stick and rust-free. Follow these steps to effectively clean your cast iron skillet, dutch oven, or griddle.

3-Step Cast Iron Cleaning Method

Step 1: Wash

  • Hand Wash: Clean your cast iron skillet by hand using warm water. If needed, use a small amount of mild soap. For stuck-on food, use a pan scraper. For particularly stubborn food, simmer a little water in the skillet for 3-5 minutes, then use the scraper after the pan has cooled. Avoid using harsh detergents or putting your cast iron in the dishwasher, as this can strip away the seasoning.

Step 2: Dry

Dry Thoroughly: Immediately dry your cast iron skillet with a lint-free cloth or paper towel to prevent rusting. Ensure all moisture is removed. If you notice a little black residue on the towel, it’s perfectly normal; it’s just the seasoning.

Step 3: Oil

  • Oil Lightly: After drying, rub a very light layer of DeathlyStag Cast Iron Seasoning onto the surface of your skillet. Use a paper towel to spread the seasoning evenly and wipe the surface until no oil residue remains. This helps maintain the non-stick surface and protects against rust.
